The buyer of a penthouse at 160 Leroy, which went under contract for $43 million, is being sold to Michael Rubin, co-owner of the Philadelphia 76ers and CEO of Kinetic. When it closes the sale will be the most expensive sale south of 14th street, although it will be surpassed soon after by an under contract penthouse at 70 Vestry which was asking $65 million. The penthouse was originally offered at $80 million as an entire spread, or $51 million for the half. The other half of the full spread went under contract for $31.5 million in July 2017.
The residence under contract for $43 million offers 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, spanning 7,750 SF. Over 5,000 SF are indoors, matched with outdoor space which features a landscaped roof deck with a 27' swimming pool. The north facing unit also includes 4 wood-burning fireplaces, private elevator access, a screening room and a library. The waterfront building was designed by Pritzker Prize winning architects Herzog & de Meuron and was developed by a partnership which includes Ian Schrager. Sales are being overseen by Douglas Elliman Development Marketing.
