Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy has announced that in partnership with the NYC Parks Department, they will be building, operating and maintaining a permanent public pool at Squibb Park, above Pier 1 in Brooklyn Heights. Brooklyn Heights has currently had a pop-up pool at Pier 2 since 2013, but city officials are excited about adding a permanent public amenity for community residents. The project is expected to cost between $10 million and $15 million. Other donors include Midtown Equities, Alloy Development, Monadnock Construction, and DLJ Real Estate Capital Partners. The pool is expected to open in 2020.
“New York City’s 53 outdoor public pools are some of our greatest assets and we love the idea of adding a new one in the Brooklyn Heights community,” said NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell Silver. “While Squibb Park is an underused facility, it serves as a crucial access point to beautiful Brooklyn Bridge Park, making it an ideal location for a permanent outdoor public pool. We are grateful for our partnership with Brooklyn Bridge Park and we look forward to working with them to make this vision a reality.”
