JDS Development Group has announced the opening of the American Copper Buildings’ 3-story amenity filled skybridge, which is the first major skybridge to be built in New York City in more than 80 years (November 29, 2017). The unrivaled collection of amenities are located in a skybridge that links the pair of dancing, copper-clad luxury rental towers on Manhattan’s East River waterfront, is a collaboration between JDS and SHoP Architects. In addition to connecting the two towers, the 100'-long skybridge is suspended 300' above the ground and encompasses a full suite of amenities, including a 75' indoor lap pool and Whirlpool hot tub at the 28th floor and a fully furnished residents’ bar and lounge at the 29th floor. Adjacent to the skybridge is Copper Tone, the double-height fitness center managed by La Palestra which features a rock-climbing wall and skyline views, a Turkish-style marble hammam with plunge pool, yoga and dynamic movement studios, and a private spa with treatment rooms. Amenities also include a catering kitchen, juice bar, flexible studio space and a children’s playroom.
“We’re thrilled to unveil the skybridge and the more than 60,000 square feet of amenities it offers,” said Michael Stern, Founder and Managing Partner of JDS Development Group. “The American Copper Buildings has captured the city’s attention with its dynamic architecture and redefined the East River waterfront. Now, residents can experience the development’s most extraordinary features, which are unlike anything else in the city.”
"JDS challenged SHoP to create a dynamic yet elegant sculptural addition to the New York City skyline," SHoP Principal Gregg Pasquarelli said. "The copper will patina over the coming decades from a shiny penny, to a warm brown, to a beautiful Statue of Liberty green. The bridge was the logical solution to create a community between the two buildings, and celebrates the project’s location between the river and the skyline. Where else in New York can you swim from one skyscraper to another three hundred feet in the air?”
The American Copper Buildings rise 41 and 48-stories and feature 761 rental apartments. The towers are clad in 4.25 million pounds of raw copper, which served as the inspiration for the development’s name. Available residences range from studios to 3-bedroom apartments with over 300 unique layouts. Residences feature large floor-to-ceiling windows that offer views of the Empire State Building, East River and Manhattan skyline, ceiling heights up to 9’7”, oak flooring, custom light fixtures, Bosch washers and dryers and Nest learning thermostat systems; custom-crafted kitchens equipped with Miele appliances, marble countertops and backsplashes; bathrooms feature signature “Crocodile” marble accent shower walls, antique brass detailing and full-length built-in medicine cabinets. Each tower includes a grand lobby with 25' ceilings that overlooks a new landscaped park and fountain on the property. A private porte cochère provides access to secure on-site parking with valet service, and the underground parking reception offers residents a private and direct connection to the building’s lobbies. Pricing begins at $3,650 for studios, $4,800 for one bedrooms, and $6,750 for two bedrooms with leasing exclusively marketed by Citi Habitats New Development.
