BFC Partners has revealed new renderings of their Bedford-Union Armory redevelopment project in Crown Heights. The developers plan to transform the space with 400 rentals and recreational space. An 8-story building on President Street will offer 60 affordable rental apartments and 25 apartments for former homeless. The retail component will house an in-patient medical facility. The basement will feature recreation space and storage for 35 bicycles. There will also be a 15-story rental building that will feature 330 apartments which will be a mix of market-rate and affordable housing, as well as parking for 201 cars. The project will also feature a recreational center that will have a pool, gym, basketball courts and office space.
Opponents of the project had argued that the entire offering should be affordable housing as it is being developed on city owned land. The developers and city held that high-income targeted units will help offset the operating costs of the property.
